‘The Witness’ Dev Looking For Animator For ‘Unannounced Game’
The makers of “The Witness” are planning to launch a new game in the future, but first they need someone to help them with 3D character animation. Game designer Jonathan Blow has announced on social media that they are currently looking for an animator for an “unannounced game.”
On Wednesday, Blow, who is credited for his works in 2008’s “Braid” and 2016’s “The Witness,” took to Twitter to announce that he is looking for an experienced 3D character animator. Blow revealed that the position is for an upcoming game. He did not reveal more details about the new game on Twitter, but he did assure applicants that the person who gets hired will be part of a small team that’s financially secure.
Blow’s first game, “Braid,” was launched in August 2008. The game was well received and it even snagged the GameSpot Award for Best Platformer. The game’s plot may be very simple given that it involves a man in search of a captured princess, but it impressed many gamers with its physical puzzles and unique artwork. “Braid” was made by developer Number None, Inc.
After “Braid,” Blow moved forward with a new game by Thekla, Inc., “The Witness,” which is a 3D puzzle video game. Originally announced in 2009, the game that involves exploration of an open world island officially debuted in 2016 after its original 2013 release date was pushed back. “The Witness” received positive reviews from both players and critics. IGN gave “The Witness” a rating of 10/10 due to its “graceful combination of tangible goals, obscurity and freedom.” It also received commercial success, raking in $5 million in its first week post-launch.
Not much is known about Blow’s third game save for the fact that it involves a long development cycle. Digital Trends reports that during a talk at the New York University Game Center, Blow revealed that the third project, which is tentatively called “Game 3,” is going to have a 20-year development period. This is because the new game is composed of episodic chapters, and each serves as a separate game. Also, unlike Blow’s first two games, the upcoming game is not going to be puzzle related.
