A woman in India has alleged her newborn baby was stolen from her after she gave birth in a hospital.

However, the hospital administration has claimed she did not have a uterus and, thus, did not give birth.

The bizarre incident took place in the state of Bihar, News Track Live reported. According to reports, the woman gave birth to a baby boy at the Chainpur Primary Health Center on Feb. 5. However, after giving birth, her baby reportedly went missing.

The woman then started searching for her newborn, and later blamed the hospital.

Responding to the woman's allegations, the hospital administration said that she did not have a uterus.

The woman then filed a complaint and told the police she was pregnant, and had received vaccination from an Anganwadi – a type of rural child care center. The woman's family also protested against the hospital administration over the disappearance of the newborn.

The hospital administration is currently trying to prove that the woman does not have a uterus as without the organ she could not have gotten pregnant, Aaj Tak reported [Google Translate showed].

During investigation, it was revealed by a staff at the Anganwadi that the woman was pregnant, and had been getting her vaccinations at the center.

The police have not revealed if the allegations placed against the hospital are true. An investigation was currently underway into the incident.

Local media have not revealed what evidence the woman or the hospital administration will be providing to prove their respective claims.

In June last year, a 31-year-old doctor was arrested for allegedly stealing a baby boy moments after his birth. The doctor then sold the infant to a couple, claiming it was from a surrogate mother. The incident took place in the southern Indian state of Karnataka. The doctor received $20,000 from the couple to whom he sold the baby. The child's biological parents, Naveed Pasha and Husna Banu, filed a police complaint a day after the newborn went missing. The police said the doctor had searched several hospitals to carry out her plan and zeroed in on the hospital as the facility did not have tight security.
