A Utah woman was arrested for allegedly biting a part of her sister’s eye off during a drunken brawl.
The suspect had fled the scene after the attack but was eventually located and charged with aggravated assault, disorderly conduct and intoxication.
The Unified Police Department responded to the attack after the victim’s ex-husband reported the Friday incident. Officers found the victim at the scene with blood dripping from her left eye after the suspect, identified as 25-year-old Ashleigh Mason, allegedly bit her during a heated argument.
The victim’s tear duct seemed to have been partially ripped out by Mason’s teeth, officials said. But there was too much blood for the first responders to make conclusions at the scene, KUTV reported.
"A portion of the eye had been torn out from under her eyelid and was outside of her eye," said the probable cause statement.
Paramedics at the scene told the victim she would have to be taken to the Intermountain Medical Center for a plastic surgeon to take a look at the damage.
"The part of the eye that was ripped out by the suspect's teeth appeared to be the tear duct; however, due to the blood at the aid being provided to the victim, it was difficult to tell," the arresting document reportedly said.
The two sisters are currently living together, officials said.
The victim spoke to officers and said she and her sister were sitting inside a car during the incident. She said Mason was intoxicated at the time and grew upset with her before launching the attack.
Mason started grabbing her hair “extremely hard” and biting her left eye, the victim told investigators, according to ABC4.
The drunk sister escaped on foot following the attack.
Officers searched the victim’s vehicle and found a “substantial amount” of blood in the center console. They also found two bottles of vodka and a can of spiked seltzer.
Mason was eventually found hiding in a yard about a block away from her sister’s residence.
“Ashleigh was extremely intoxicated and was screaming extremely loud, causing alarm to other residences in the area,” officer Brandon Moore said in the affidavit, KSL NewsRadio reported.
Mason was arrested and booked at the Salt Lake County Jail.
