A woman in India has allegedly been gang-raped by four men while she was kept in confinement for more than a week and injected with intoxicants.
The suspects reportedly threatened the victim with a gun and recorded an objectionable video of the assault before releasing her, police told The Times of India.
The alleged incident came to light after the unidentified woman from Ballabhgargh, a city in the northern Indian state of Haryana, approached the police Sunday after she was reportedly released by the victims. The woman told the police she was kept in custody and tortured for nine days by four men.
Based on the victim's complaint, the police have registered a case against the four suspects identified only by their first names -- Chintu, Sanju, Kuldeep and Deepak. The suspects have not been taken into custody yet.
According to the criminal complaint, Chintu, who lives in the same village, had asked the woman to meet him. When she met him on June 30 at a location he had mentioned, Sanju came there in a car and the duo reportedly took her to Faridabad, a city five miles from Ballabhgargh.
The woman alleged she was offered water laced with some intoxicants before she was abducted. "After consuming this I fell unconscious and when I came back to my senses I found myself confined in a room," the victim told the police, according to The Times of India.
The other two suspects came to the room at night and she was raped by all of them, she told the officers. The victim was reportedly kept at gunpoint during the confinement and raped every day. She was injected with intoxicants and given suspicious pills, according to the criminal complaint.
The suspects allegedly forced the victim to call home and talk to her family members, telling them she was safe while in their custody. Before the victim was released on July 8, the suspects recorded a video of the assault and threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone, police said.
"We are investigating the matter and a hunt is on to arrest all the accused persons," Umesh Kumar, an investigating officer said, as per news outlet Mid-Day.
