A 42-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly punching a 3-year-old boy in Indiana, claiming he called her a derogatory name.

Evansville Police received a report Friday afternoon about a domestic battery in progress at a residence on North Elliott Street. As the cops reached the house, a man in a mobilized wheelchair told them the woman assaulted him as well when he tried to confront her for punching the boy, according to WHIO TV.

Responding officers discovered the pajama-clad boy in the residence with blood all over his face. The man in the wheelchair, who called 911, told cops the child was watching TV with the woman, identified as Laticia Sharp, when she punched the young boy "out of nowhere."

When the man confronted the woman and yelled at her for punching the child, Sharp struck him as well and exited the residence, according to his statement to cops. The identities of the boy and the man were not revealed by the authorities.

Sharp, who had left by the time officers arrived, was later found hiding in the backyard of the house. Cops arrested her at the scene, according to 14 NEWS. While speaking to officers, Sharp claimed she punched the boy for calling her a derogatory name.

Sharp was later transported to the Vanderburgh County Jail by officials. She was facing battery charges on a person less than 14 years old and a simple assault in connection with the incident.

The health condition of the child remained unclear. Other details related to the incident were not revealed by the authorities.

In an unrelated incident reported last year, a 17-year-old teenager confessed to punching his half-sister, leading to her death in their New York apartment. Police sources said the teenager punched his 7-year-old sister, Julissia Batties, eight times in the face while their mother was away because he believed she took some snacks. Cops found Batties unconscious inside the apartment with a head injury. She was pronounced dead in the hospital. Batties' mother initially claimed her daughter fell and hit her head on a desk.
