An 18-year-old Kentucky woman has been arrested for allegedly raping a 12-year-old boy on three occasions, court documents show.
The woman, identified as Morgan Roberts, was charged with second-degree rape, second-degree sexual assault and second-degree sodomy, Lexington Herald-Leader reported, citing Kenton County jail records. Roberts was being held on a $10,000 bond.
The victim’s mother reported the alleged incident to police after she discovered a text message on her son’s phone, according to court documents. The text message from Roberts on the victim’s phone allegedly read: “I took your V card and you liked it.”
“His mother found a text message on her young son’s phone indicating that someone had taken his virginity,” Kenton County prosecutor Rob Sanders was quoted as saying by Fox 19. “The mother was obviously concerned.”
Police talked to the victim, who confirmed the sexual assaults, the documents said. One of the incidents allegedly happened at the victim’s home, and the second at Roberts' residence in Bromley. The third allegedly happened at the house of one of the victim’s friends.
Two other kids were interviewed by police, and both said that Roberts admitted to raping the victim. The two kids also told authorities that the 18-year-old woman made them call her “mom,” the documents said.
“It was somewhat common knowledge of what was going on, at least amongst the kids,” the prosecutor said.
Sanders said that Roberts met the victim through his group of friends, all of whom are close to the boy’s age. It has yet to be determined how the woman met them originally.
“It’s a little bizarre,” the prosecutor said. “An 18-year-old is hanging out with 10, 11, 12-year-olds. But that seemed to be the case here, where he met her through other children.”
Roberts was booked into jail last week, about five months after the last alleged sexual assault, according to court records.
Sanders said that there is no evidence at this time that Roberts had more victims. The investigation is ongoing.
The Kenton County prosecutor urged parents to take cases such as this one seriously. Sanders asked parents to find out if Roberts had been around their children and immediately contact authorities if she was.
“It’s just as illegal for a female to be doing this with a 12-year-old male as it would be with a 12-year-old female or, for that matter, an 18-year-old male,” the prosecutor said. “Everyone is held to the same standards under the law.”
