Police are now on the lookout for a man who allegedly broke into the Chicago apartment of a 26-year-old woman and sexually assaulted her Saturday.

The unidentified man was able to break into the woman’s home in the Humboldt Park neighborhood at around 4:30 a.m. Saturday by removing the air conditioner from a back window, WGN-TV reported, citing Chicago police.

The woman, who was not named in the report, was in her bedroom in her apartment near California Avenue and Division Street when the alleged assailant entered. Once inside, the man allegedly led the woman throughout the apartment to find things he could steal.

The intruder then allegedly sexually assaulted the 26-year-old multiple times. He allegedly also struck the woman in the face and the body several times, police said.

The woman eventually managed to escape and ask for help.

In her statement, the woman said her alleged attacker was of medium brown complexion and around 25 to 35 years old. She also described him as around 6 feet tall with a thin build and short black hair.

The man was wearing a ski mask and a long sleeve black shirt at the time of the alleged incident, the woman said.

The suspect remains at large, and local police have called on the public to reach out to them if they have any leads related to the case. People with information can call police at 312- 744-8261 or submit anonymous tips via tipsoft.com

The incident comes not long after a man in Pennsylvania was arrested for allegedly kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman for months.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by WTAE, it was only when the notes the woman allegedly left on the mirrors of several female restrooms in two counties were discovered that authorities were alerted.

Employees at a Walmart store in Carnegie found on July 8 a note that contained the writer's name alleging that she was being held captive by 38-year-old Corey Brewer of Scott Township and sexually and physically assaulted by him.

A search warrant for Brewer's residence was issued after he was spotted in cameras with the victim, and he was taken into custody last Tuesday. The woman was taken to a hospital.

Police said Brewer and the woman used to date, but things went sour. In August 2020, the woman sought a now-expired order of protection.
