Woman Apologizes For Calling Cops After Homeowner Paints ‘Black Lives Matter’ On His Own Property
KEY POINTS
- A California "Karen" called the police because a Filipino was stenciling the wall of his own home
- The Filipino homeowner captured the incident on video and uploaded it on Twitter
- The woman, a skincare CEO, later apologized for her behavior
Lisa Alexander, the woman who was seen in a viral video confronting James Juanillo, a Filipino, for writing ‘Black Lives Matter’ on a retaining wall, has issued an apology, SFGATE reports. Alexander, who is reportedly a skincare CEO from San Francisco, said Sunday she is “deeply sorry” for her “racist” behavior and invited Juanillo for a cup of coffee to personally offer her apologies.
Private Property
Juanillo was stenciling a message in chalk on the front retaining wall of his property Friday, June 12, when Alexander approached him and asked if it was his property. The male companion of Alexander, later identified to be Robert, her husband, recorded the scene. Juanillo, instead of answering the question, asked why the skincare CEO is asking, to which Robert immediately responded, “Because it’s private property.”
Alexander, then added, “Because it’s private property so… Are you defacing private property? You’re free to express your opinion but … just not on people’s properties.” She went on to say that it is good to say or write about what they believe in, but writing on private property is not the way to do it.
Knows The Person Who Lived There
After listening to Alexander’s questions, Juanillo asked the skincare CEO that if he lived there and it was is property, would it be fine to write anything there. She immediately replied, “if it was your property.” Juanillo then says Alexander does not know if he lives there or if it was his property. “We actually DO know. That’s why we’re asking,” a grinning Alexander replied.
She added that they know the person who lived there, which is why they are asking why Juanillo is writing on the wall. To end the discussion, Juanillo suggested they call the cops if they believe he is committing a crime. The couple did, according to a report by NYPost.
An Apology
The Filipino homeowner, who also took a video of the confrontation, uploaded it on Twitter, where it gained viral status with more than 12 million views. Alexander, who may have learned that Juanillo is indeed the owner of the property, apologized Sunday. In a Twitter post, the skincare CEO, said: “There are not enough words to describe how truly sorry I am for being disrespectful to him last Tuesday when I made the decision to question him about what he was doing in front of his home.”
