A 40-year-old woman in Cherokee County, Georgia, has been arrested after a toddler was found dead at an apartment.

Phillissa Diallo was arrested after police discovered the lifeless body of a baby girl at an apartment on Hearthstone Landing Drive in Canton Wednesday afternoon, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) reported, citing a statement from Sgt. Tiffanie Cromer of the Canton Police Department.

Police responded to the apartment complex after receiving a tip from an unnamed individual who walked into the police department at around 4 p.m. that day, Fox 5 reported.

"They received information about a deceased toddler being located inside a residence," Cromer said, according to Fox 5. "An incident of this nature, involving a child is heartbreaking."

Officers found the body of a deceased female toddler inside the apartment, Cromer said.

As a result, Canton police issued two warrants for Diallo. Authorities have not disclosed the suspect's relationship with the deceased.

The child's body was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab to identify the deceased and determine the cause of death, according to authorities.

Diallo was charged with one count of concealing the death of another person and one count of second-degree cruelty to children, Cromer said. The suspect was also charged with second-degree murder Friday, according to AJC.

Diallo was being held at the Cherokee County Detention Center.

Police are urging anyone with information related to the case to contact the Canton Police Department at 770-720-4883.

In other news, the mother of a toddler found dead in a Georgia landfill was charged with murder and other crimes this week in a 19-count indictment.

On Wednesday, a Chatham County grand jury returned the indictment against Leilani Simon that alleges she used drugs before killing her son and dumping his body in a trash bin.

Simon has been in jail since she was arrested on Nov. 21, when investigators found her son's remains after weeks spent combing through garbage at a landfill, CBS News reported.

Simon's 20-month-old son, Quinton, died the morning of Oct. 5 after she assaulted him with an unknown object, causing the child "serious bodily injury," the indictment alleged.

According to the indictment, Simon was charged with murder, concealing a death and falsely reporting a crime in addition to 14 separate counts of lying to investigators.
