A video of a woman rescuing a venomous snake from a family's home in India has gone viral on social media, with many praising her confidence.

The woman, identified as Roshini G S, was called to rescue a cobra from a residence in Thiruvananthapuram, a city in the southern Indian state of Kerala, the Indian Express reported. Roshini was a trained forest official.

In the video, Roshni can be seen holding the snake by its tail as onlookers watch the rescue operation from a distance. She takes the reptile toward a nearby wall to prevent it from escaping and then nudges it into a bag using a long stick. The forest official ties the end of the bag after the snake slithers inside and takes it to safety.

The video, shared by Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Sudha Ramen, has since gone viral on social media and has been viewed over 45,000 times on Twitter. Viewers not only lauded Roshni for her calm and confident demeanor but also for showing courage to join the mostly male-dominated profession.

"A brave Forest staff Roshini rescues a snake from the human habitations at Kattakada. She is trained in handling snakes," Ramen said on Twitter. "Women force in Forest depts across the country is growing up in good numbers."

Roshni is a beat forest officer and has been working for the department since 2017. She was reportedly one of the few persons in the area to complete a snake conservation training program.

"I was never scared of snakes. It was very interesting to handle a cobra during the training. The training taught me of the scientific methods of handling snakes without hurting them," Roshini told local outlet Onmanorama in 2020. She added that the training motivated her to rescue and conserve snakes.

Cobra venom is highly toxic and can prove fatal if left untreated. A famous snake handler in India was put on a ventilator last month after a 10-foot long cobra bit him during a rescue operation. He is recovering now.
