Woman Charged With Manslaughter For Fatally Shoving 87-Year-Old Broadway Coach
A 26-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday for charges involving the death of an 87-year-old Broadway vocal coach who was shoved to the ground from behind in New York City.
The defendant, Lauren Pazienza, of Port Jefferson, Long Island, turned herself into police Tuesday morning, according to her defense attorney Arthur Aidala. Police released a surveillance video of a woman that they were searching for as a possible suspect. It is believed that the woman in the video and Pazienza are the same.
Barbara Maier Gustern was shoved and critically injured on March 10 outside of her apartment in Manhattan, the New York Police Department said. The shove caused Gustern to hit her head, become hospitalized and eventually die Tuesday, March 13, The New York Times reported.
Gustern was a well-respected member of the theater world for decades and had experience working with many well-renowned acts like the cast of the musical "Oklahoma!"
Gustern's grandson took to her Facebook account to share the news of her passing.
"We have lost one of the brightest little flames to ever grace this world. I ask that you all give me a little time and space, but I want to make time for anyone and everyone who wants to know more about her final moments.”
