Woman Claims Weinstein Assaulted Her Several Times; Mel Gibson Can Testify On Her Behalf
A woman who worked as a professional massage therapist testified Wednesday that Harvey Weinstein sexually assaulted her in 2010, and the court ruled that a Hollywood A-lister can testify on her behalf.
The woman, identified in court as "Jane Doe 3," told the Los Angeles jury that after giving Weinstein a massage at the Beverley Hills Hotel, he cornered her in the bathroom while she was washing her hands, groped her chest, and performed a sex act on himself.
She later told her friend, actor Mel Gibson, about the alleged assault after breaking down upon hearing Weinstein's name, Variety reported. Judge Lisa B. Lench ruled that Gibson could testify about her account of the incident.
During her testimony, the massage therapist said, "The bathroom door opened. There was Harvey, standing naked, masturbating. He was standing naked, stroking himself."
She states she told him what he was doing was "inappropriate" and asked him to go into the other room and "get your clothes on."
Weinstein allegedly continued to assault her, ignoring her requests for him to stop. He then told her afterward, "Now I know I can trust you. We're close friends."
She also said Weinstein told her he could help her get a book deal about massage therapy. She testified that she never had any interest in writing a book.
After the hotel incident, she says she maintained contact with Weinstein and went through several other interactions involving alleged sexual assault.
When asked why she agreed to see him again and make appointments, she told the jury, "I wanted to make sense of certain things that had happened. I wish I didn't."
Weinstein, 70, is charged with sexual battery by restraint involving the massage therapist. He was indicted on 11 charges involving five women Los Angeles, including forcible rape, forcible oral copulation, sexual penetration by a foreign object, and sexual battery by restraint.
