Woman Cuts Off Husband’s Penis with 10-inch Knife; Husband in Good Spirits [PHOTOS]
The man whose wife is accused of cutting off his penis is recovering from his wounds and, according to police, is in fairly good spirits.
Garden Grove police detectives have interview the 60-year-old man in the hospital, where he is listed in good condition, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The detectives said he is in surprisingly good spirits considering all that happened to him, Lt. Bruce Nightengale said.
On Wednesday, 48-year-old Catherine Kieu Becker allegedly cooked her husband drugged food. When her husband passed out, she tied him to the bed.
When he woke up, she took off his pants, cut off his penis, put it in the garbage disposal, and turned on the disposal.
She then called the police, who arrived at the scene to find the husband tied to a bed and bleeding profusely from his crotch area.
The victim, who was not identified, underwent surgery. But the severed organ could not be reattached.
As for Catherine, she is facing charges of torture and aggravated mayhem, with sentencing enhancements for great bodily injury and personal use of a knife. If convicted on all counts, she faces a maximum sentence of life in prison with the possibility of parole.
Mayhem (or maiming) is defined as unlawfully and maliciously depriving a human being a member of his body, or disables, disfigures, or renders it useless.
It's so heinous -- we're looking at this as premeditated. Her intention was to permanently deprive him of a piece of his body and do it in such a way to inflict a great amount of pain and psychological damage, said Lt. Jeff. Nightengale, reported the Huffington Post.
The couple was married on Demceber 29, 2009. In May, the husband filed for divorce from Catherine Becker, citing irreconcilable differences, reported KTLA.
She got into an argument with her husband about friends staying at the residence, according to a statement by prosecutors.
She has been held without bail since her arrest Monday night. Her arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday in Westminster, where she is expected to plead not guilty.
