In a shocking incident, a Ukrainian woman fed her husband’s genitals to pet dogs after killing him following years of domestic abuse, police said Wednesday.

The accused, identified as 48-year-old Maria, attacked her husband, 49-year-old Oleksandr, when he returned home after completing his night shift in the wee hours of Aug.23. Maria first strangled her spouse with her bare hands before decapitating his head using an axe. She grabbed a knife from the kitchen, chopped off his genitals and fed the organ to her pet dogs. Maria then attempted to chop the victim’s body into pieces, however, when she did not succeed, she rushed out of her home to the street, covered in blood.

Speaking to local media, Nadezhda Opanasiuk, a neighbor who spotted the accused on the street, said, “Her hands, feet and clothes were in blood. She said, 'I am in trouble. I've killed my husband.’ I did not believe her. I thought they had a quarrel and she might have hit him. I went to see if he needed medical help. When I walked into the room, I saw his mutilated body. The bedsheets were soaked with blood. I asked her, ‘Where's his head?', and she replied, 'there, in the sack.’”

Opanasiuk alerted the neighbors about it who then called the police. Officers arrived at the scene and took Maria into custody after she confessed to the crime. She told the officers that “she was suffering domestic violence for ages and murdered her husband to put an end to it and that it was the only way out.”

Confirming the incident, police spokesman Vadim Artiukhovich said, “The suspect confessed in full at the scene. She was charged with murder and taken into custody. The woman said that she was constantly suffering physical and emotional abuse and did not see any other option to end her misery. Neighbors say they, in fact, saw the husband beating her up and chasing her with an axe a lot of times. However, the woman has never reported the incidents.”

The investigation was ongoing and the accused could face up to 15 years in prison if found guilty.
