Woman Films Herself Aggressively Beating 2-Year-Old Daughter 'To Hurt' Ex-Husband
A woman from Santiago, Chile, was arrested Friday for filming herself beating her two-year-old daughter in order to get back at the girl’s father.
Ximena Carolina Tapia Quintana, 38, sent the video to the girl’s father who is currently in prison. The unnamed man then posted it on Facebook last week. In the video, the woman calls the toddler over who enters into the shot and asks her what she wants. The woman slaps the girl several times and forcefully pulls her hair before turning the camera back on her face and smirks.
“Look what I am doing to your daughter because I do not love her,” the woman says in the video, while holding the girl’s hair tightly.
The woman was arrested and released after posting a bond.
Speaking to local media, Quintana said, "I took revenge on her (daughter) so that he (ex-husband) would hurt, because of what he said to me. I'm still sorry.” “We all make mistakes, I'm not the only one. There are moms who are worse than me,” she added.
Meanwhile, a family court ruled that the toddler will be in the care of her paternal grandmother while the woman will undergo psychiatric tests.
"The reaction to the video has been widely condemned. We are living in a period with a lot of social violence," said Chilean Minister of Justice and Human Rights Hernan Larrain. The investigation was ongoing and there was no information about the condition of the girl.
In a similar incident in China in January, a woman was arrested after she filmed herself physically abusing her one-month-old daughter. The video, posted on social media by the woman named Wei, showed her slapping the infant repeatedly and trying to smother her. During interrogation, the woman told police she was feeling lonely and hoped the video would make her estranged husband feel guilty about leaving her.
"Due to her husband's absence at home, Wei felt very lonely and used her cell phone to film herself hitting her daughter's face. She also used her hand to cover her daughter's nose and mouth. Wei posted the video on social media in hopes that it will force her husband, Liu, to return home. The child meanwhile is unhurt,” police said in a statement.
