Woman Found Shackled With Iron Chain Weighing Over 30Kg At Own Home

Police have rescued a 40-year-old woman found chained and padlocked inside her home for the past three months. The victim reportedly told officers that she was bound up by her husband and son, who also brutally tortured her.

The shocking case of domestic violence was reported from the Indian state of Rajasthan Wednesday. The police arrested the victim's husband, Bhanru Lal Meena, and five others in connection with the incident, reported India Today.

Police said they received a tip-off Wednesday that a woman was being abused at a house in the village of Lalgarh. A team of officers immediately went to the location, where they discovered the woman in distress. Officers said the iron chain, which had two locks, weighed 30 kilograms and was found wrapped around her left ankle.

The victim said in her complaint that her husband accused her of having an extra-marital affair. She said she often visited her mother who lived in a nearby town to help her with chores. Her husband didn't approve of these visits and doubted she was meeting someone else.

"My husband would come to my mother's place and beat me up in front of the family. I only wanted to take care of my aging mother but my husband would get drunk and thrash me. He suspected that I was cheating on him," the woman said in her statement.

On March 26, her husband, one of her sons, and few other people began questioning her. They beat her up before chaining her inside the room, the woman alleged. She said her husband continued to physically and mentally assault her every day since, leaving her unable to walk.

The police said they have launched an investigation into the abuse. The incident has triggered an uproar in the district, and the State Human Rights Commission has taken cognizance of the matter. The panel has asked the police to submit a report within 20 days, reports The Free Press Journal.

Meanwhile, a similar case of domestic abuse was reported in India Wednesday. A 64-year-old man was arrested for chaining and beating up his widowed daughter-in-law. The video of the assault that happened on a public road in the state of Uttar Pradesh had gone viral on social media. According to reports, the assault happened over a property dispute.
