A 43-year-old Florida woman has been rescued from a storm drain in Grand Prairie, Texas, just two months after she was found and pulled out of a similar situation in a different state.
Authorities located Lyndsey Kennedy Saturday near East Avenue J and 108th street and took her to a local hospital for treatment, the Grand Prairie Police Department said in a statement released Monday. Police said she was last seen in the area near the Dallas suburbs of Grand Prairie and Arlington on May 26.
According to her family, Kennedy disappeared over a week after she was checked into a rehabilitation facility in Texas, WPEC reported.
Brady Morgan, who was reportedly Kennedy's best friend, said authorities spotted her near a creek, but she slipped into a nearby storm drain when they approached her.
Kennedy's family was able to ping her last location using a tracking app that was installed on her cellphone. They, along with her friends, then dropped bags of food and drinks down nearby manholes and the storm drain in an effort to sustain her.
Jane, Kennedy's mother, said her daughter finally climbed out of a six-foot drain pipe Saturday night and was transported to a nearby hospital on a psychiatric hold.
According to her family, Kennedy has psychosis and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which she developed after years of being in an abusive relationship. They said they hope to take her back home to recover near family and friends.
Kennedy found herself in a similar situation when she was pulled out of a nearly eight-foot-deep storm drain in Delray Beach, Florida, around three weeks after she was reported missing on March 3.
The woman said she was swimming in a canal when she opened a door that led to a series of tunnels and ended up getting lost in a drainage ditch, the Sun-Sentinel reported, citing a police report.
Members of the Delray Beach Fire Rescue Department rescued Kennedy from a storm drain near Atlantic Avenue on March 24. She was saved after a woman passing by the area heard her yelling in the morning and called 911.
Kennedy told authorities she had spent nearly three weeks walking around the sewer system.
