A woman in the Canadian city of Quebec was struck and killed by a landing aircraft Monday while she was mowing her lawn.

The bizarre accident occurred near Saint-Esprit in the Lanaudiere region when the woman, in her 20s, was cutting grass with a riding lawnmower, CTV News reported.

"The victim was on a tractor and she was hit by a plane that was landing," a spokesperson of the provincial police service Sûreté du Québec (SQ), Marc Tessier, told the publication. "She was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead."

Neither the victim nor the pilot was identified by the authorities. The plane appeared to be a Yakovlev Yak-52 Soviet aircraft typically used by students for aviation training. The crash site was a Parachute Montreal landing field, CTV News reported.

The pilot was performing a landing maneuver when the plane struck the victim. He allegedly didn’t see her, Global News reported. The pilot of the plane was also taken to a hospital to treat a "violent nervous shock," but didn’t suffer any injuries, according to Global News.

Experts from the SQ collision reconstruction were at the site to probe the crash. The Transport Safety Board of Canada also deployed a team of experts to assess the situation, media outlet iHeartRadio reported.

In 2017, an 8-year-old girl and a man aged between 50 and 56 were killed after being struck by a plane that was making an emergency landing. The incident occurred on a beach in Lisbon, Portugal, when the plane attempted to make a hasty landing after facing some sort of technical difficulties. The man was lying on a towel when the plane passed over his legs, resulting in his death. The 8-year-old girl, who was also struck and killed by the plane, was visiting the beach with her parents. Witnesses present at the scene said many people ran into the sea for cover after seeing the plane approach. Pictures of the plane taken from the crash site showed the aircraft had some sort of glitch in the left wing as it was slightly more tilted than the right.
