Woman Gives Birth To 13-Pound Baby Naturally [VIDEO]
A couple in O'Fallon, Missouri welcomed a very large bundle of joy earlier this month after giving birth to a healthy 13-pound baby. Joe and Lauren Flaugher welcomed their newborn son with a natural birth.
Lauren was in labor for nine hours and 20 minutes, Fox 2 reported Wednesday. The newborn, who the couple named Finnish and will be three weeks old Wednesday, weighed in at just over 13 pounds. According to BabyCenter.com, birth weight on average usually falls between 6.7 and 8.1 pounds for boys, and between 6.5 and 7.8 pounds for girls. That means little Finnis weighed between 1.5 and two times the average for newborns. That's a fair amount of pushing!
Speaking with Fox 2, Lauren said that her key to success involved “a lot of visualizations” and “positive affirmations before the birth to kind of prepare myself.” Both Lauren and the baby are healthy, and the couple reportedly hopes that sharing their experience with natural birth will open others to the practice. Fox 2 reported that O’Fallon’s Birth and Wellness Center is the only accredited facility in Missouri that’s staffed by certified midwives.

Hardly the only baby to make a huge entrance in recent months, as least two other mothers gave birth to 13-pound babies this year. Back in January, Melbourne resident Natashia Corrigan gave birth to her son Brian Liddle Jr., who weighed 13 pounds and 4 ounces.
“It’s hard to get our minds around such a whirlwind of a day,” Corrigan wrote in a January Facebook post. “I never dreamed we’d get so much love for our BIG baby boy and family.”
“I never dreamed he'd be this big, thought he'd be an 11 pounder at the max! But we were blessed with a safe delivery of a 13.5 pounder! I'm still in shock!” she added.
In an interview with CBS, Natashia said she too had a natural birth. Like Lauren, Natashia said the “power of positive thinking during birth” was her modus operandi, adding that deep breathing was also key.

Baby Valentino of Sacramento was born in April and also weighed 13 pounds — plus an additional 11 ounces. Remarkably, his mother Kelly Corsetti also opted for a natural birth. Speaking with CBS in April, Kelly said, “When we put him on the scale and I saw the look on my sister-in-law's face and she said 13 pounds, 11 ounces, I was pretty shocked.”
