Woman Hurls Neighbor's Cat In Air For Entering Her Garden, Video Shows
In a case of animal cruelty, a woman threw a cat at her neighbor’s home furious that the family's two felines kept entering her garden.
A court in the U.K. heard Friday that CCTV footage of the incident that took place March 1 showed 36-year-old April Hawes approaching her neighbor’s home while carrying one of the cats by the scruff of its neck before flinging the feline 25 feet through the air. She then walks away as the cat lands on the pavement.
Prosecutor said the cat named Shadow was left screaming in agony and suffered soft tissue damage. The animal remained in “very nervous" state.
Kevin Yarham, the cat’s owner, said, “April Hawes threw Shadow at the door not once but twice. She picked the cat up by the scruff of the neck and threw him violently twice. You can hear her shouting whilst she was doing it.”
“Shadow was scenting near her house. Cats do what they do, they are animals that explore and they’re free roaming. She just picked him up and threw him as he was scenting – I have no idea why she done this,” he added.
During interrogation, Hawes said she was remorseful and did not intend to harm the animal. Her defense attorney said she suffered post-traumatic stress disorder after the incident. The court Friday ordered her to complete a 12-month community order and spared her from jail.
Speaking about the sentence, Yarham said, “I would describe the sentence as an insult to all animal owners, it’s a disgrace and far too soft. It’s an insult to all the people who suffer PTSD, this is no excuse.”
