An Argentinean woman drew the public’s ire on Valentine’s Day when she married the man who was convicted of murdering her twin sister two years ago.

An angry mob assembled outside the courthouse where Edith Casas, 23, wed Victor Cingolani, who is serving a 13-year prison sentence for killing Edith’s sister, fashion model Johana Casas. The crowd threw eggs and stones at Edith as she exited the building. After the ceremony, police wearing riot gear escorted Cingolani back to prison.

The couple plans to have children when Congolani is eventually released. He’s currently appealing the conviction.

“I want to start a family with Victor because I love him. He is innocent,” Mrs. Casas said before the wedding, according to ABC Australia.

“Victor is not a violent person and I’m not mad,” she continued. “We’ve got no doubts about what we’re doing. We love each other.”

Johana Casas was found dead in a field, killed by two gunshot wounds to the chest. Congolani was immediately the prime suspect in the murder but has adamantly denied any involvement in the crime. The couple had broken off their relationship shortly before Johana’s death, at which time Congolani claims he took up with Edith.

They were wed in the southern Agentinian city of Pico Truncade, roughly 1,200 miles away from Buenos Aires, the capital.

No one from the Casas family attended the wedding. The wedding was originally scheduled for December but Casas’ mother was able to delay the ceremony by convincing a judge to order a psychiatric evaluation for Edith. She confessed to the local media that she now is worried about her daughter, despite the perceived family betrayal.

“I’ve always said she is threatened by the Cingolani family,” said Edith’s mother. “I’m afraid that something might happen to her because he is a killer and manipulator.”

Edith’s father was less understanding about the nuptials.

“For me they are both dead. Johana is with God and Edith is with the devil.”
