In one of the most baffling coronavirus cases, a woman in India has tested positive for COVID-19 at least 31 times in the past five months.

The woman, identified as 35-year-old Sarada Devi from the western state of Rajasthan, first tested positive for COVID-19 on Aug. 24, 2020. In the next five months, she tested positive 14 times by RT-PCR test and 17 times by antigen test.

"Her samples were collected on Sept. 4 and 9, on Oct. 1, 7, and 15, on November 2, 9, 18 and 23, on Dec. 1, 7, 14 and 25, and finally on Jan. 7. She, however, tested negative for COVID-19 on Oct. 15 and since then she has had no symptoms of COVID," said Dr. Kaptan Singh, media outlet The Times of India reported.

However, her results came out positive again in the RT-PCR test done on Jan. 7 and also in the antigen test done on Jan. 10.

Devi seemed to show no symptoms of the virus infection, Dr. Singh confirmed. He said the results might have come out positive due to her low immunity and the presence of inactive viruses in her abdomen and intestines. The chances of her passing on the infection to someone are very low, he added.

The woman has been staying in a care home since Sept. 1.

"Since then, she has been staying in isolation and has been given all three types of treatment namely allopathic, Homeopathic and Ayurveda. However, despite all treatments, each time, her report comes positive," said, Dr. B.M. Bhardwaj from Apna Ashram, the care home, The Tribune reported.

Doctors treating her were baffled to find that despite being tested positive 31 times, the woman seems to be in good health and has shown no signs of weakness.

"Surprisingly, despite having positive COVID report, she is healthy and has gained around 7-8 kilo," Dr. Bhardwaj said.

She is kept in isolation and was advised to maintain social distancing until her test report turns negative.
