KEY POINTS

  • The video was reuploaded by other YouTube accounts after the woman took it down
  • Many who were disgusted by the clip called for her arrest for food tampering
  • The woman has been identified as Libby Barnes, a make-up artist from Tennessee

A recently-surfaced YouTube video shows Tennessee-based make-up artist Libby Barnes tearing open a bag of chips and sampling some of it before spitting it back into the bag. What made it truly abhorrent is that the video shows Barnes sealing the packet of chips and placing it back on the shelf.

The controversial video was posted by Barnes but later she took it down amid a barrage of criticism that came her way. However, the video quickly resurfaced on other YouTube handles and circulated widely on the internet. Take a look below:

Over the years, people have been seen pulling off the meanest and most hilarious pranks in a bid to go viral on social media. But the woman clearly went a bit too far and instead of garnering 15 seconds of fame, Barnes was received with netizens calling for her arrest.

"You can and should go to jail for this. Even if you went back and picked up the bag, there are cases from a couple of years ago where people made these kind of videos for clout. They got in a LOT of trouble. Food tampering is no joke," one user wrote in the comment section.

"Why would you even consider doing a thing like this? I sincerely hope she'll get busted for this," wrote another. "This is one of the most pathetic attempts at clout chasing I've ever seen. Btw this is a felony even if you went back for the bag," wrote a third.

One of the users also highlighted a similar prank that landed a man behind bars, "A man did this with ice cream a few years ago and went to jail. You should go to jail too. You are truly an awful person. I give it two weeks and the cops are going (as they should) be knocking on your door."

The video has a longer version in which Barnes is seen repeating the prank on several other items including water bottles, soda, and candy. When a man confronts her about this asking whether she was shoplifting, she said: "I'm not stealing. I plan on buying those things. Mind your own business. I remember where I put it."
