Woman Wakes Up To Find Stranger In Her Bedroom Taking His Clothes Off
Honolulu, Hawaii -- A woman in Hawaii had the shock of her life when she woke up to find a stranger lurking inside her house. He was taking his clothes off.
Police later arrested the 35-year-old suspect, identified as James Burrios, who was roaming in a nearby yard wearing a crop top and underwear.
The victim, who chose to remain anonymous, said she was sleeping in her Honolulu home Wednesday night when the suspect broke in.
"He came in around 11.40 p.m.," the woman said Friday while speaking to Hawaii News Now.
She said she heard her bedroom door open. She was confused and initially thought it was one of her friends.
"He had a blanket over his head so I didn't know who it was," she told the outlet. "I said who are you? Why are you here? And he just kind of giggled. I think he was high on meth."
Her roommate was reportedly in another bedroom and was completely unaware of the stranger's presence inside the house.
The woman said she noticed Burrios taking his clothes off.
"He sat on my couch and started undressing and touching himself. And that's when I was like no. This isn't one of my friends. I've got to get out of here. This is dangerous," she added.
The woman locked herself up in the bathroom while Burrios took all his clothes off and loitered around the house naked.
"So he came back with the blanket on and I was like you need to get out of my house right now," she recalled. "As he walked out I pulled off the blanket at that point he was naked and ran out the door."
Cops retrieved footage from a neighbor's security camera and found a shadowy figure leaving the victim's house. The suspect was found in a nearby yard dressed in a crop top and underwear, officials said.
Burrios has had several run-ins with the law over the past 15 years. He was previously accused of criminal trespassing, burglary, assault and harassment and had almost a dozen convictions.
Following the incident, the victim said she would take measures to amp up her home's security.
"We are purchasing some lights that will turn on, motion sensor lights. And also we're going to put in some cameras," she said and urged people to "lock your doors. Be on the lookout."
Details about the charges against Burrios were not revealed.
