A horrifying video of assault showing women getting beaten and dragged out of a restaurant in China has gone viral on social media, sparking outrage against the misogyny and increasing violence toward women in the country.

The officials in China arrested nine people Saturday after the video of the brutal assault, caught on the surveillance camera of the barbecue restaurant in Tangshan, a city in the northern Hebei province, Friday was shared on the Chinese social media site Weibo, NY Daily News reported.

Surveillance footage inside the restaurant shows a man approaching a woman, who is seated at a table with her other female friends and placing his hand on her back. After the woman tries to turn him down several times, the man slaps her in rage. When the woman tries to fight back, a group of men enters the restaurant and starts violently attacking both the victim and her four friends.

The video then shows the men shoving the women to the ground, kicking them, and throwing a chair at them before dragging them out of the restaurant, NBC News reported.

After being dragged out of the restaurant, another video from outside the establishment shows women getting assaulted on the pavement while most of the passersby looked on.

Two of the victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were treated at a hospital, while two others were slightly injured. The condition of all four victims was reported to be stable.

The video of the vicious assault, along with the photo of the victims with bruised faces, soon got widely shared on social media sparking debates about the increasing cases of mistreatment of women in China.

A video of a man in China beating his wife to death on the pavement while passers-by watched the assault without attempting to intervene had gone viral on social media in 2020. The tragic incident was reported in the Chinese city of Shuozhou after the couple accidentally hit a vehicle while they were traveling on their electric scooter. The incident sparked an argument between the couple which soon escalated into a violent attack as the man started beating his wife to death. Many passers-by looked on and filmed the brutal attack while no one tried to stop the violence.
