Despite COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, “Wonder Woman 1984” continues to rake in money for Warner Bros. The Gal Gadot-led movie stayed atop the domestic box office but continued to fall off steeply as theaters remain closed in most states.

The superhero flick earned just $3 million domestically, falling 93% from the same weekend a year ago even when no big films hit the market, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. On the other hand, “Wonder Woman 1984” made $4.7 million overseas, taking its global tally to $131.4 million.

The numbers might be much less than those during the first weeks of its release, but the production giant is not worried, mainly due to the bumper response that “Wonder Woman 1984” received at HBO Max. A recent survey found that the second film in the “Wonder Woman” series was watched more on HBO Max in its first week than Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “Hamilton” on Disney+.

“WW84” surpassed “Hamilton” as the biggest streaming debut for a film last year.

The third “Wonder Woman” movie has already been fast-tracked by Warner Bros. and will once again see Patty Jenkins and Gadot teaming up.

Jenkins found herself engulfed in controversy after recent comments about having some creative differences with the production giant. Many media outlets used sensational headlines and words like “war” to talk about the issue.

The filmmaker slammed media outlets for using such “dramatic headlines” to grab attention and made it clear that she did not have any fight with WB while making “Wonder Woman,” which was the first DCEU movie to get critical acclaim.

“Versions of this article seem to be everywhere and not true. There was no 'war' with warner bros. over WW. I’m talking about 10 years of discussions with 10 different execs through them. And the whole beard thing was about other projects at other studios,” Jenkins wrote on Twitter.

Her comments came a day after the New York Post published a story that featured quotes from Jenkins’ interview with Marc Maron on the “ WTF” podcast. During the interview, Jenkins said that the management was not interested in making the movie that she wanted and did not even read the script.

The first “Wonder Woman” movie starring Gadot as the titular character garnered critical acclaim and was a huge success at the box office, grossing more than $821 million globally.
