World AIDS Day: Theme For 2022, Quotes To Bring Awareness And Hope
World AIDS Day is observed every year on Dec. 1 to bring awareness about the disease which continues to be a major global public health issue.
AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) is a chronic immune system disease caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) that attacks the immune system and interferes with the body's ability to fight infections.
There is currently no effective cure for the disease. However, with the use of antiretroviral therapy (ART), the quantity of the virus in the blood can be considerably reduced. This treatment will help the patients to live long and healthy lives without transmitting the virus to their HIV-negative partners through sex.
It is estimated that around 650,000 people died from HIV-related causes and 1.5 million people acquired HIV in 2021.
WHO has announced the theme for this year's World AIDS Day as "Equalize" and called for global leaders and citizens to address the inequalities that are hindering progress in ending AIDS.
Here are some quotes that will bring awareness about AIDS and give hope to people fighting the disease:
