The second Wednesday of August is celebrated as World Calligraphy Day to honor the art form, which is centered around letterforms and symbols that are written in an artistic manner.

Calligraphy is the art of designing beautiful symbols and letters by hand and arranging them in order. Calligraphers are credited with creating the architecture of letters in a harmonious fashion with romantic elegance.

The art of calligraphy has its roots in China, where it first appeared in 200 B.C. Eventually, calligraphy became the main tool of manuscript writing in several regions of the world and the main mode of communication. Contemporary calligraphy is largely influenced by manuscripts with increased painterly and graphic qualities.
