World Cup 2014: UK Newspapers, Websites React To England's Disastrous Performance

Newspaper and websites in the United Kingdom were awash in anguish and recrimination Friday in the wake of England's stunning exit from group play at the 2014 World Cup.
Costa Rica’s 1-0 victory over Italy on Friday, coupled with England’s losses in its first two matches, eliminated Wayne Rooney and his teammates from the possibility of advancing to the tournament’s knockout stage. This year’s World Cup marks the first time since 1958 that England couldn’t make it through the group stage.
Over the last few days, England’s supporters took to Twitter to voice their frustration regarding the team’s poor showing, and it appears that the media won’t be any more forgiving. Here’s a roundup of headlines on England’s losses, and subsequent elimination, from the 2014 World Cup.
