World Cup: Netherlands-Argentina Game Reminds Americans That Soccer Is Boring

Wednesday's tense World Cup semifinal match between Argentina and Netherlands was scoreless well past the 90' mark, providing a happy antidote to Germany's 7-1 blowout of Brazil the day before.
But many American soccer fans didn't see it that way, instead returning to the familiar refrain about how boring the sport that the rest of the world calls football is.
Countless tweets were posted on Twitter Wednesday deriding the world's most popular sporting event as the game dragged on with no goals for either team. (Argentina eventually advanced to the final on penalty kicks, 4-2.)
Hardcore New York Rangers fan @JUltimateRanger tweeted a critique of the "beautiful game":
Nothing puts me to sleep better than a boring soccer game...A riveting soccer game is a close 2nd...

New Jersey Twitter user @BdNasty9 went a little further.
And this is when soccer absolutely sucks. This game couldn't get any more boring

American twitterer @forrestfire was even more succinct in his commentary:
Update: soccer is dumb.
