World Physical Therapy Day is observed annually on Sept. 8 to honor the works of physiotherapists who help their patients to stay fit and well, and thereby build a healthy community.

In 1996, Sept. 8 was designated as World Physical Therapy Day by the World Confederation of Physical Therapy that was founded on the same date in 1951.

“World Physical Therapy Day is an opportunity to recognize the fantastic work that physical therapists do for their patients and community," Jonathon Kruger, Chief Executive of World Confederation of Physical Therapy, said.

The human body is prone to damages while doing activities like sports or athletics and physical therapists work hard to cure the damage and help fix the lost functionality. A physical therapist helps to sort issues of immobilization or impairments in people. This day gives an opportunity to appreciate the contribution made by them to the society and medical field.

Every year, World Physical Therapy Day is celebrated based on a theme. This year's theme is "Rehabilitation and Long COVID-19." The organization decided to continue with the same theme that was selected last year as the world is still fighting the pandemic.

You can take part in the celebration by showing your appreciation to your local physiotherapist and by using social media to spread awareness about their important role in society.
