World's Smallest Puppy: Beyonce, 4 Ounces, Could Set Record [PHOTOS]
The world's smallest puppy could end up being Beyonce, a two-week-old Dachshund mix who now weighs four pounds and is less than four inches long.
Beyonce is one of five puppies delivered by her mother, Casey, who was recently rescued by the Grace Foundation of Northern California. Grace Foundation saved Casey and her puppies from death after the pregnant dog was found abandoned on the streets of California and was about to be euthanized.
The foundation learned that Beyonce, while in her mother's womb, was abnormally small and would most like be still born.
On March 8, Beyonce and her other siblings were born, but she wasn't breathing. She also didn't have a heartbeat. Vets performed heart compressions on Beyonce to get her heart started, but it still wasn't strong enough.
Beth Decaprio, executive director of The Grace Foundation, then immediately gave Beyonce mouth-to-mouth to help her breath on her own, the foundation stated.
When she was a day old, Beyonce was so tiny she could fit into a spoon. The foundation is now inquiring with the Guinness Book of World Records to see if she qualifies as the world's smallest pup.
According to the Guinness World Records, the smallest dog living is Boo Boo. She is a Chihuahua who is four inches tall and is owned by Lana Elswick of Raceland, Ky.
The smallest working dog is Momo, a 7-year-old Chihuahua, weighing six pounds. Guinness World Records stated that Momo is in the Japanese police force helping with search and rescue.
