World's Ugliest Dog Dies: How Did Yoda Get Her Name?

The World's Ugliest Dog - Yoda, a 15-year-old Chinese crested-Chihuahua mix, died in her sleep Saturday.

The dog got its name after the Star Wars character, who Schumacher thought were both equally unattractive, according to The Sun.

Say a prayer today 4 my YODA...rest in peace 3-10-12, said Schumacher in an email about Yoda's death, California's Hanford Sentinel reported. She passed away last night in her sleep. I will miss her funny little ways! But comforted knowing she will be joining my Mom and Dad, who loved her so much! Her memories will live on forever!!!

Yoda's owner, Terry Schumacher, found her behind an apartment building and, at first glance, thought she was a rat.

Yoda was entered into the World's Ugliest Dog contest at the Sonoma Marin Fair in California and won for her unkempt hair, drooping tongue and unsymmetrical eyes.

Yoda received a giant trophy for the distinction while Schumacher went home with $1,000.

Both dog and owner were treated to a suite at the Sheraton Sonoma County in Petaluma, Calif.
