FC Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal has reportedly admitted to wanting to leave the Nou Camp side to join Argentina’s popular club Boca Juniors.
Vidal has been a key member in Barcelona’s midfield but the 33-year-old has claimed that becoming a part of the Argentian club would be a dream come true, even if it meant he won’t play the Champions League in his last few seasons before bowing out of the sport.
"We all know what Boca is in Argentina. The players who have been there. I have never had the opportunity to play in La Bombonera. Neither with Colo-Colo nor with another team. I have always wanted to feel what they say they feel there. We all know how winning they are at Boca. People ... would be a dream,” the South American told ESPN Chile, as reported by Spanish media outlet Eldesmarque.
Ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window, Barcelona are looking to sell quite a few players in a bid to rejuvenate the side. While they are looking for buyers for Croatia’s Ivan Rakitic, they have received a massive offer for Arthur Melo. Juventus and Barcelona have agreed for a huge $90 million deal for the 23-year-old Brazilian but the two parties cannot go ahead with the signing as yet because it is believed that Melo is yet to be convinced to move to the Serie A team.
Vidal, who moved from Bayern Munich to Barca ahead of the 2018-19 season, is contracted with the La Liga side until summer of 2021 and this summer is their last shot at cashing in on Vidal’s transfer, who could well walk away as a free agent next summer.
So far, the Blaugrana are expected to receive $90 million from Juventus for Melo and the Catalans have demanded $22 million from Arsenal for their 30-year-old goalkeeper Neto Murara. Barca could earn a little over $100 million if both the deals go through this summer and if they manage to sell Vidal as well this transfer market to Boco Juniors for $11 million, then Barcelona can finally be able to sign one of their top targets of this summer – Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan, a player wanted by Barca captain Lionel Messi.
Messi’s Argentina teammate Martinez, whose release clause is expected to be around $124 million, is being considered as a long-term replacement for aging Luis Suarez.
