The deceased wrestler was identified as Mahesh Kumar. He was competing against Sajid Ansari as part of a village fair held at Moradabad. Seconds after the match began, Ansari slammed Kumar on the ground, twisting his neck in the process. Though Kumar immediately went unconscious and his neck went limp, the crowd went on clapping.
Not realizing that the man had died, Ansari tried to fix his head twice. On seeing Kumar lie motionless in the arena, the match organizers rushed in, trying to lift him up. However, none realized that he was dead. The crowd continued to cheer.
Though they soon realized that the man had died, none of them alerted the police or a medical facility. According to reports, the man's body was handed over to his family for cremation. It is unclear whether Kumar died due to his neck being broken during the fight or some other reason.

However, senior police officials said no one has officially filed a complaint with the police with regard to the death of the wrestler.
