WWE 2014 Royal Rumble: Results And Recap For Every Match On The Card; Who Won The 30-Man Match?
The 2014 Royal Rumble may have been unlike any WWE Pay-Per-View in history.
After a strong first half, the fans hijacked the show, booing much of what they saw. Daniel Bryan, currently the most popular wrestler in the company, was not in the Royal Rumble match. He competed with Bray Wyatt to begin the event, but that did not satisfy the fans, who expressed their displeasure.
The crowd showed their disinterest in the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match with chants throughout. In the beginning, they serenaded John Cena and Randy Orton with “Daniel Bryan” chants. By the end, there had been “Boring” “We Want Refunds” and “End This Match” chants.
The Rumble match itself went off without incident, until Rey Mysterio became the final entrant. Bryan was never advertised to be in the match, but the crowd had been hopeful that he would make a surprise appearance and win. The crowd filled the Console Energy Center in Pittsburgh with boos for much of the rest of the way. When Batista won, the babyface was booed mercilessly. As he walked to the back, he flipped of fans and mocked Bryan’s “Yes!” chant.
Will the WWE give the fans what it wants after this latest incident? That remains to be seen. Below are the complete results from the Royal Rumble, as well as a recap for each match.
WWE World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton vs. John Cena
The match was filled with false finishes and the wrestlers using each other’s move. Orton unsuccessfully applied the STF and hit Cena with an Attitude Adjustment, while Cena hit Orton with an RKO. Orton eventually got the victory because of a distraction from the Wyatt Family. The ending appears to be setting up the rumored WrestleMania match between Bray Wyatt and Cena.
Winner: Orton
Brock Lesnar vs. Big Show
The match barely lasted over two minutes, as Lesnar picked up Big Show and hit him with an F5. Before the bell rang, Lesnar beat Show with a chair for over five minutes. He continued the beating when the match ended.
Winner: Brock Lesnar
Daniel Bryan vs. Bray Wyatt
Wyatt Family member Luke Harper and Erick Rowan were ejected from ringside after the first few minutes. Wyatt hit Bryan with his Sister Abigail outside of the ring. After dragging him back in the ring, he repeated the move and got the victory, clean.
Winner: Bray Wyatt
WWE Tag Team Champions Cody Rhodes & Goldust vs. The New Age Outlaws (Pre-Show)
Road Dogg and Billy Gunn set a record by winning the tag team championship 14 years apart. Gunn hit Rhodes with a Fameasser to end the match.
Winner: The New Age Outlaws
Royal Rumble Match
The match closed out the show, indicating several breakups and possible WrestleMania matches. Goldust accidentally eliminated Cody Rhodes, who looked displeased with his brother. Roman Reigns set a new record with 12 eliminations, including getting rid of both Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose. CM Punk made it to the final four after being the No.1 entrant, but was thrown over the top rope by Kane, who had been eliminated earlier. Once Punk was gone, only Sheamus, Reigns and Batista remained. Batista won by eliminating Reigns.
Winner: Batista
