KEY POINTS
- "WWE 2K Battlegrounds" has been added to Stadia's lineup of upcoming games
- The game is scheduled to be released sometime in the fall of 2020
- Google Stadia is also adding EA games such as "FIFA" and "Madden NFL"
Google continues to make waves with a lineup of major titles set to hit its gaming platform, Stadia.
The latest to get a Google Stadia port is 2K Games’ upcoming arcade-style wrestling game “WWE 2K Battlegrounds.” The surprising addition was revealed on the announcement of the ESRB rating for the game.
In the announcement, Stadia is listed as one of the platforms for the game alongside Windows PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One.
While “WWE 2K Battlegrounds” hasn’t been received well since it was teased in mid-April, its arrival on Google Stadia is still a big step for the cloud-based gaming service in expanding their audience and reach in the industry.
It also shows that Google is fully supporting the platform as they promote all-access gaming.
To recall, it was announced recently that popular battle royale game “PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds” has been given a Stadia Port. Furthermore, other Electronic Arts games such as “FIFA,” “Madden NFL” and “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order” have been lined up to arrive on the platform this 2020.
More games are expected to land on Stadia on 2021, and their partnership with 2K to bring “WWE” is definitely exciting for the community, as it could suggest more 2K titles in the future.
On other news, while “WWE 2K Battlegrounds” has received plenty of criticisms due to its departure from the usual “WWE” game, it has been given a T Rating by ERSB. The rating means that the game might not be targeted for younger audiences as initially assumed.
According to the ERSB description of the game, “characters punch, kick, and throw each other during matches. Players can also attack opponents by using chairs, poles, alligators, exploding barrels, and falling cars.”
Furthermore, “wrestlers react to damage by crying out in pain, and/or writhing on the floor.” It was also emphasized that matches in the game are depicted in an exaggerated cartoon style, complete with “impact sounds, slow-motion effects and occasional explosions.”
Fans will have to wait and see to give a final judgment to the game. Fortunately, it won’t be long before it arrives, as it is scheduled to be released sometime in the fall of 2020.
