  • WWE 2K may not launch WWE 2K21
  • WWE 2K21 cancellation may allow game developers to improve next installment
  • WWE 2K has yet to make official announcement on status of WWE 2K21

Each year, 2K Sports tries to come up with an impressive game for WWE fans. Considering WWE 2K20 came with lots of glitches and bugs, a successor would have at least gotten players' minds off a forgetful edition last year. But with several factors in play right now led by the COVID-19 pandemic, seeing a WWE 2K21 edition come out is getting dim.

2K Sports has yet to make an official announcement but several sources have claimed that gamers should not expect a WWE 2K21 this year. Among them include YouTuber ViolentLee (Justin Leper), an actor who has worked in the video game industry. Citing reliable sources, he claims that WWE 2K21 is canceled.

“I have heard from reliable sources and I truly believe that WWE 2K21 has been canceled. There will be no game this year,” Leeper said on YouTube.

For those hoping to play WWE 2K21, this could be a disappointing development. But then again, considering how WWE 2K20 fared, jumping a year could give game developers more time to address the problems that the last installment gave. Also, WWE 2K does not appear to have any stiff competition although there are murmurs that AEW has plans of launching a video game of their own, VGR.com reported.

As far as WWE 2K20 is concerned, the game debuted with a lot of problems. Game developers tried to address the problem by releasing several updates. And while the effort was meant to address the glitches, not all gamers were happy with the fixes released. With a lot of gamers displeased at the game, it comes to no surprise that WWE 2K20 ended up with a poor rating across different consoles (Xbox One and PlayStation 4).

Ideally, a new WWE 2K game would be out by October. But given the pandemic situation, that could either be delayed or scrapped altogether. As early as now, teasers on what to expect should be out. But with the world glued to COVID-19 developments, spreading rumors about WWE 2K21 is unlikely to gain traction. Some may be interested in a new WWE 2K game and some may not even care. It is a sensitive situation that may need to be addressed soon - especially now that a lot of the gamers are holed up in homes and looking for some cool video game to play.
