WWE Champion’s Interesting Reaction To The Rock's Comments About Him
World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) champion Drew McIntyre has reacted to comments from The Rock, who spoke about the Scottish last year.
Earlier this year, McIntyre created history when he defeated the beast, Brock Lesnar, to become the first-ever WWE champion from Scotland. The journey has not been easy for McIntyre, who debuted in the WWE in late 2007 under the SmackDown brand. McIntyre, who has had several ups and downs in his career, has been on WWE’s main roster since 2018. He had not done anything of significance until he won the Royal Rumble in January and that victory finally gave McIntyre a shot at the WWE Championship.
When TMZ asked The Rock last year who according to him is the next star of the WWE Company, The People’s Champion had taken McIntyre’s name.
“I just know that a lot of guys obviously are working very hard. I spent a lot of time with Roman just now, spent the past week with him and we were talking about everybody who has potential and who doesn't. Personally, I like Drew McIntyre. I think he's got a great look and a great build, and especially as he continues to hone in on his craft and connect with the audience, which is always the most important thing,” The Rock had told TMZ Sports.
McIntyre recently reacted to The Rock’s remarks, appreciating the superstar’s words.
“I want to give a shout-out because you guys posted something with The Rock. Right before the call — 'TMZ? Why does that ring a bell?' — it was interesting when he took a moment and was asked, 'Who is going to be the next breakout star?' and he said, Drew McIntyre. If you watch what I was doing at the time, I was doing nothing. I wasn't showing my personality as I've done over the past few months,” McIntyre said in a recent interview, as reported by WrestlingInc.
The current WWE champion further added that it is remarkable that guys like The Rock and Vince McMahon see something in people that the others don't.
“I wasn't on a winning streak and he pointed me out. It's interesting with guys like Vince McMahon and The Rock when they see something in somebody that others don't or maybe you don't see in yourself. I wanted to say thank you for seeing that in me, too. It's pretty cool, these people that believed in me that are so influential in the entertainment industry,” the former NXT champion added.
One of the reasons behind The Rock’s support for McIntyre could be that the latter has had a similar story in the WWE where he was written off by the fans during his early days but he went on to become one of the superstars in the company with his hard work and grit.
