WWE Fan Dies in 'Rear Naked Choke Hold' While Wrestling With Cousin During 2012 WrestleMania 28 Party
A World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) fan named Stephen A. Arceneaux III of Destrehan, Louisiana died in a rear naked choke hold by his 14-year-old cousin during a WrestleMania 28 party on Sunday.
According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, 24-year-old Arceneaux was wrestling with his young cousin during a party to watch the pay-per-view WWE WrestleMania and refused to tap out.
Arceneaux was pronounced dead at 10:39 p.m. on Sunday after being rushed to the hospital, the Times-Picayune reported.
The report said that 220-pound Arceneaux and his cousin, who weighed half his weight, were wrestling on a blowup mattress at his party. The cousin held him in a rear naked choke hold for 30 to 40 seconds as Arceneaux refused to tap out.
According to a witness, Arceneaux began turning blue and told the young cousin to let him go. By that time, however, Arceneaux had stopped breathing. Friends tried to give him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation but it was unsuccessful.
Police have not made any arrests in the death of Stephen A. Arceneaux III but are investigating the incident before the 24-year-old was rushed to the hospital.
It's bizarre, Sheriff's Office spokesman Capt. Pat Yoes told the Times-Picayune. We're still investigating it. But when you have violent horseplay like that, it just goes to show you that anything can happen.
