KEY POINTS

  • In Booker T's eyes, only Britt Baker can compete with Sasha Banks' star power
  • Baker has become an even bigger star since joining AEW with support from her work on the indies
  • Banks' WWE return is still hazy due to rumors of her being in Japan

2022 has been a particularly interesting year in pro wrestling as the landscape changed mightily with WWE and All Elite Wrestling (AEW) taking massive strides respectively, while many fans continue to hope that Sasha Banks will be making an appearance on either promotion soon.

But in the eyes of WWE legend and Hall of Famer Booker T, there is no female performer in the AEW locker room who could hold a candle to Banks' star power.

"Do I think she (Sasha Banks) would do well in AEW? I think she would overshadow anything that's going on in AEW from the women's side more than anything. I mean it's not anybody over there other than Britt Baker that I think she really that genuinely matches up with her from a star power perspective. That's just my personal opinion," Booker T said on his podcast.

AEW has been the go-to place for most ex-WWE performers with the likes of Toni Storm, Ruby Soho (Ruby Riott in WWE), Athena (Ember Moon in WWE) and Saraya (Paige in WWE) joining the roster.

However, the biggest current stars in AEW are those who are considered homegrown talent: Britt Baker, Jamie Hayter, Thunder Rosa and Jade Cargill.

Amongst those four names, Baker is the most prominent household name other than Cargill as her body of work on the independent pro wrestling scene gave her a ton of credibility in the eyes of hardcore pro wrestling fans.

AEW deserves credit for doing their best to generate female stars outside of the four aforementioned women, but it has not been without issue because of the lack of TV time available on both the Rampage and Dynamite weekly shows—with only 180 minutes of programming between the two shows.

In a way, Booker T's comments about Banks being only comparable to Baker do make sense because both performers have been tasked with being the standard-bearers of their respective promotions.

Much has been said of Banks and Naomi's exit from WWE and insiders have reported that Banks is in Japan to make an appearance at New Japan Pro Wrestling's (NJPW) Wrestle Kingdom 17 on January 4, 2023.

Other than the Japan-based pro wrestling promotion, there are also rumors of Banks performing under AEW on January 11 as Saraya's mystery partner.

Banks is still contracted under WWE and with the growing belief of it expiring on January 1, the hype around her shopping for a new promotion is very much possible.

But in a year that has seen the in-ring return of Stone Cold Steve Austin and Vince McMahon's surprising departure, the pro wrestling industry is extremely unpredictable and anything can definitely happen when it comes to Banks' own career trajectory.
