KEY POINTS

  • Bill Goldberg facing off against Roman Reigns for the Universal title spices the next WWE pay-per-view up
  • Reigns is likely to retain the title over Goldberg with WrestleMania 38 approaching
  • Brock Lesnar is likely to seek payback for the Bloodline’s attack at Royal Rumble

The events that went down at the 2022 edition of the WWE Royal Rumble have gotten some clarity. However, what most wrestling fans did not expect is the sudden inclusion of former champion and WWE legend Bill Goldberg.

Just as Paul Heyman was explaining his turncoat ways on Brock Lesnar at the recent WWE pay-per-view, Roman Reigns got an unexpected visitor in the 55-year-old wrestling icon, WWE.com reported.

Goldberg interrupted the Tribal Chief and said that he acknowledges Reigns — as his opponent at the WWE Elimination Chamber event set to take place at the Jeddah Super Dome in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Feb. 19.

“Roman Reigns, I acknowledge you ... as my next victim,” Goldberg said on Friday's edition of WWE SmackDown.

It remains to be seen how this storyline will go. But with WrestleMania 38 fast approaching, the Tribal Chief is likely to win.

However, the upcoming pay-per-view may also focus on Lesnar.

The Beast Incarnate will be one of the participants in the Elimination Chamber match for the WWE title currently held by Bobby Lashley of WWE Raw.

Aside from Lesnar and Lashley, other protagonists include AJ Styles, Seth Rollins, Austin Theory and Riddle. This was set after these participants came out on top in their respective qualifying matches.

Although most see Lesnar as someone who will likely be focusing on SmackDown, the former WWE champion may want to hold both WWE titles at WrestleMania 38.

Hence, Lesnar has nothing to lose even if he falls short at the WWE Elimination Chamber. But then again, he could take his revenge on Reigns for his interference at the Royal Rumble.

It can be recalled that Reigns meddled in Lesnar’s title defense at the time. However, he earned the right to challenge Reigns anew when he won the 30-man battle royale.

Lesnar may get involved in some capacity, during or after the match. He could inflict pain or avenge Reigns’ intrusion.

The WWE Universal champion may still end up with the belt if he wins or loses via disqualification. Either way, expect Lesnar to be involved in some capacity to get payback on the Bloodline at the WWE Elimination Chamber event on Feb. 19.
