Rey Mysterio was recently unveiled as the cover star for the upcoming release of the WWE 2K22 video game.
The pro wrestling icon revealed that fans will get to relive his biggest career moments within the game.
“I'm looking forward to sharing the stories behind the big moments of my career with a dedicated community of players and connecting with WWE fans in a whole new way as they play through my 2K Showcase,” said Mysterio via a press release shared by ESPN.
“2K Showcase” is a popular story-based game mode where players are able to replay iconic matches from WWE history, and it will most likely include Mysterio’s watershed moment of capturing the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 22.
Earlier in the week, promotional materials featuring Mysterio on the cover were leaked on social media by Nils Ahrensmeier, a writer for German Outlet Technik News.
WWE 2K22 will mark the ninth collaboration between the top-tier pro wrestling company and 2K Games.
Fans were sent into a frenzy about the rumor that Mysterio was going to be on the cover of the game as his illustrious career has inspired so many people inside the ring and outside of it.
Mysterio is seen by many fans and observers as the “ultimate underdog” in pro wrestling because his road to the top of the business was littered with obstacles and people telling him that he was too small to be a champion in WWE.
The 47-year-old made his triumphant return to WWE in 2018 at the Royal Rumble and has since remained a fixture on the company's programming alongside his real-life son and tag team partner, Dominik.
The Mysterios competed in an eight-man tag team match alongside the Street Profits against the coalition of Dolph Ziggler, Robert Roode, Apollo Crews and Commander Azeez on the latest episode of Raw.
Montez Ford picked up the victory for his side with a gorgeous-looking frog splash off the top rope and celebrated with his teammates.
The post-match antics featured the Mysterios tossing both members of the Street Profits over the top rope in a friendly show of competition ahead of the Royal Rumble on January 29 before he threw out his as a reminder to not trust anyone during the 30-man match.
In nearly two decades of being a WWE superstar, Mysterio captured multiple titles throughout his career that led to him earning his place in WWE history as the 21st Triple Crown and Grand Slam Champion.
WWE 2K22 is set to release on March 11 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series XS as revealed by Forbes.
