WWE Returns: The Undertaker, Brock Lesnar Interrupt Goldberg Before Royal Rumble 2017
It was a historic ending to “Monday Night Raw” as three of the biggest names in WWE history stood in the ring to close the show. Brock Lesnar, Goldberg and The Undertaker confronted each other on the final episode before the 2017 Royal Rumble.
Goldberg was advertised for the show to discuss his entry into the 30-man battle royal, but his promo was interrupted by Paul Heyman and Lesnar. When the former UFC champion entered the ring and appeared ready to get physical with Goldberg, the lights went out and The Undertaker made a surprise return.
The inclusion of the three stars makes Sunday’s battle royal one of the most highly anticipated Royal Rumbles in recent memory. While it usually isn’t difficult to predict which WWE superstar will emerge as the winner, several wrestlers have a legitimate chance to be the last man standing.
It’s hard to believe that Goldberg or Lesnar will win the Royal Rumble, considering they are likely headed for a rematch against one another at WrestleMania 33. Goldberg defeated Lesnar at Survivor Series in arguably WWE’s most shocking moment of 2016, needing just one minute and 26 seconds to get the pinfall.
The Undertaker, however, is one of the favorites to win the Royal Rumble and he could fight in the main event of WrestleMania 33. WWE might look to give him one last title shot before his retirement, which could come sooner rather than later. Roman Reigns and John Cena, who are both fighting for world titles at Sunday’s PPV, are among his most likely opponents.
Lesnar has been a part-time performer since he returned to WWE in 2012, but he’s spent a lot of time in the ring with either The Undertaker or Goldberg in the last few years. Before feuding with Goldberg at the end of last year, Lesnar had three matches with The Undertaker in between WrestleMania 30 and Hell in a Cell 2015.
