Former WWE champion John Cena is currently busy attending to various Hollywood commitments, and this has been one of the reasons why he has only popped up on select shows.

The last time he was active in the ring was back in January where he participated in a triple threat match alongside Finn Balor and Drew McIntyre to determine the no. 1 contender for the WWE Universal title. Other than that, he has occasionally made appearances on select shows – the last of which was during Wrestlemania 35 in a segment that involved Elias.

There is no question that Cena has already established his mark as one of the WWE’s premiere stars. But looking ahead, his schedule seems a bit tight – meaning seeing him engage in a storyline could be a long shot. So does this spell the end for the 42-year-old actor/wrestler?

Speaking to TMZ Sports, Cena admitted that he has given retirement some thought. The question apparently came into the picture following the disastrous match involving Bill Goldberg, 52, and the Undertaker, 54, at WWE Super Showdown in Saudi Arabia. Goldberg ended up with a nasty head wound and both wrestlers got criticized by fans. In fact, some even called on both WWE stars to retire.

Although he did not mention it, Cena will likely factor that in if he does decide to retire. While he could still be good for a couple of matches, his WWE return hinges entirely on whether his schedule permits him to do so. For now, he will be concentrating on "Fast & Furious 9." He was officially included in the cast recently and admits that he is excited to get behind the wheel, Entertainment Weekly reported.

Cena also thanked Vin Diesel who had initially posted a cryptic video on Instagram back in April, teasing the potential involvement of the WWE superstar in the next installment.

“I certainly owe a thanks to Vin Diesel as well. Because he sent out a social media message kind of alluding to the fact that that opportunity may be real, but at the time it certainly was not. And his message had a lot of weight and appeal to it,” said Cena in an interview with EW.com.

After "Fast & Furious 9," it will be interesting what movie Cena will be on next. If not, there is always the WWE or perhaps some TV shows where he is likely to end up.
