  • Goldberg vs. McIntyre for the WWE title will happen at Royal Rumble
  • Goldberg is being teased to win the WWE title
  • Other WWE stars allegedly contracted COVID-19 aside from McIntyre

The WWE is facing a dilemma on how to hype the Drew McIntyre vs. Bill Goldberg title match, and it appears they are doing so through available means.

A photo of Goldberg was put up on the promotion’s Instagram account, raising speculations on things to come.

The photo, which can be viewed here, clearly shows that there is a good chance that Goldberg will be the next WWE champion.

Most are expecting it to happen though not all are on board with it. The comments from the post alone speak for themselves.

The WWE is pushing through with the match at this year’s edition of the WWE Royal Rumble. It will happen on Jan. 31 as one of the main cards.

This is despite the fact that McIntyre tested positive for COVID-19 and will be serving a 14-day quarantine before he can return to action. The coming weeks were expected to hype up that showdown, the first of which was supposed to happen last Jan. 11.

As mentioned in a previous post, McIntyre was set to face Randy Orton before the COVID-19 announcement came. Most anticipated the “Scottish Psychopath” to address Goldberg’s challenge made last Jan. 4.

Despite being in isolation, McIntyre still managed to appear on Raw. In the second segment, the reigning champion accepted Goldberg's challenge to officially book the match for the Royal Rumble.

It should be an interesting showdown, but most feel that this titular encounter will be a short one. Goldberg has been known to finish off opponents in grand fashion and record time.

Also worth considering is that at his age, the former champion’s durability is questionable.

If McIntyre loses, the WWE could use the COVID-19 as a factor in the storyline. There could be claims that the 35-year-old’s conditioning was affected, a reason for him to lose.

However, the WWE may have something more on its plate. It appears that McIntyre was not the only one who tested positive for COVID-19.

According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, at least three other WWE stars tested positive for COVID-19. One of those stars is from WWE SmackDown, the other from WWE NXT and the third unnamed one is returning from quarantine.

The COVID-19 threat is real and the WWE needs to be more careful from here – particularly the Royal Rumble which could be severely affected.
