KEY POINTS

  • Edge is back in the WWE
  • Edge will face Randy Orton at Wrestlemania 36
  • New storylines will be revealed on the Jan. 27 edition of WWE Raw

The 2020 edition of the WWE Royal Rumble is over and done with, an event that built new storylines. At the top of the heap is Drew McIntyre who was the last man standing in the 30-man battle royale. However, there were a lot of seeds plotted that are likely to end up as new storylines in the coming months.

But the big news of the night was the return of Edge (Adam Joseph Copeland). The former WWE champion appeared in the Royal Rumble, entering at no. 21 and showed little rust since retiring back in 2011. The 46-year-old wrestler seemed pretty fit, eliminating the likes of AJ Styles, Luke Gallows and Randy Orton. Unfortunately, his run came up short after he was eliminated by Roman Reigns.

At the end of it all, it was the Big Dog vs. Drew McIntyre. And while Reigns vowed to win it all and go to Wrestlemania 36 once more to reclaim the Universal title, those plans may have taken a tumble. McIntyre eliminated Reigns, punching his ticket to Wrestlemania 36. Being a Raw superstar, McIntyre is likely to aim for Brock Lesnar's Universal title.

However, don't expect Reigns to be written off just yet. The Big Dog could end up with a storyline opposite McIntyre to complicate things. There are still come WWE pay-per-views that could alter the script. If not a one-on-one match, it could even become a Triple-Threat or even a Fatal Four-Way before Wrestlemania comes around.

As for Edge, the word out is that he will have a Wrestlemania match as well. According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, there are plans for Rated R superstar to face Randy Orton at Wrestlemania in April.

For those who were able to watch, Edge and Orton had a brief alliance reminiscent of Rated RKO. The Viper teased a betrayal but chose not to use his RKO finisher. It would be Edge instead who would eliminate Orton, clearly the start of a new WWE storyline. Expect a segment to unfold this Monday on WWE Raw between these two former tag partners as well as other new twists tied up to the 2020 WWE Royal Rumble aftermath.
