WWE Rumors: Reigns Set For Battle Of Spears At WrestleMania But Not Against Goldberg
KEY POINTS
- Edge is rumored to challenge Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal title
- McIntyre's opponent for Wrestlemania 37 remains unknown and is unlikely to be Sheamus
- Edge could fall short of cinderella dream at WrestleMania 37
Edge, whose real name is Adam Copeland, has yet to announce which WWE champion he will challenge at WrestleMania 37 although he did come face-to-face with Drew McIntyre at the Feb. 1 edition of WWE Raw.
Nothing was made official although it is something that made sense. Until now, it made little sense for Edge to aim at Roman Reigns.
In a previous post, it was suggested that a better showdown was the "Tribal Chief" engaging Bill Goldberg in a match that failed to materialize at WrestleMania 36. But it appears there has been a change-up with reports that the "Rated-R superstar" will be challenging Reigns instead.
According to F4Wonline, this is what WWE has planned and an official announcement will be made soon. Once it does, it makes sense if one considers the finishers of the two stars.
Most have been raving about the "Battle of Spears" that Goldberg had stressed before when he hinted about wanting the match with Reigns to push through.
But then again, it is the same finisher that Edge has, something he has used countless times to winning big matches in the WWE ring.
It could be a clash that makes sense, seeing Reigns taking on a WWE legend out to create a Cinderella finish. But is it the right match to make?
Ideally, the Royal Rumble winner would most likely come out of WrestleMania as the new champion. Though Edge is quite popular, it raises questions on whether it would be wise to see him conquer Reigns in the annual spectacle.
The scenario could be the same if Goldberg were to be pitted against the "Big Dog." It could be a short reign unless the creative team transforms it to something nostalgic– something like a passing of the torch storyline.
Should it end up being an Edge vs. Reigns affair for the WWE Universal title, the next question is who will McIntyre face instead?
Goldberg is likely out of the picture, and the WWE champion appears headed to a new storyline against Sheamus. The "Celtic Warrior" hit the "Scottish Psychopath" with a Brogue Kick and then revealed he wants a shot at the title.
This could be a temporary angle involving McIntyre and Sheamus, meaning the WWE champion’s actual opponent for WrestleMania 37 remains at large.
