Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns has reportedly signed a new deal with the company that will see him work fewer house shows in the coming months.
Ringside News cited a report from Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer who revealed the details.
“It’s not it for him, but the situation is that he got a new deal and the new deal is for far less dates. So, he’s not going to do be doing — I don’t know how many house shows he’ll be doing, but it’s going to be far less house shows than he is doing now,” said Meltzer as quoted by Ringside News.
Reigns drew attention over the weekend after he made an announcement to the crowd in Trenton, New Jersey that he is not sure when he will be back, causing rumors to swirl that he was unsure when he would be "back here again".
“I've been here many times. I’ve been here probably a couple of times in the past 10 years. I’m starting to work into a new phase in my career, and I honestly don’t know if I’ll ever be back here again. If that’s the case, I just want to say thank you for all these years of support,” said Reigns.
With Meltzer’s update, WWE fans can rest easy in knowing that the “Tribal Chief” is going to be sticking around for a long time.
However, fans who want to see him at house shows may need to count on luck to see him perform.
Having Reigns work fewer house shows does ensure that he will be more fit and ready to perform during weekly programming and on pay-per-views while also making him even more of an attraction to the promotion.
Without Reigns being billed on some house shows, attendance numbers are expected to take a hit without his name on the marquee, but this also opens the avenue for other performers to shine through and own the stage.
Reigns has an undeniable presence that made him one of the biggest stars in WWE since he turned heel and he will continue to be the organization’s No. 1 guy until someone builds enough credibility to take the titles off his shoulders.
