KEY POINTS

  • Roman Reigns' faction is suffering from a fallout with all eyes on Jimmy Uso
  • Seth Rollins could interfere in the Reigns-Cesaro match at WWE Backlash 2021
  • Uso could turn on Reigns and cost the Tribal Chief his WWE Universal title

WWE Universal champion Roman Reigns is all set to defend his title against Cesaro at WWE Backlash Sunday with the latter getting a big push. However, there could be some sidelights in that event with the Tribal Chief needing to take control of the turmoil brewing in his faction.

As previously reported, Jimmy Uso seems to be getting a bit of a bump by sticking his nose in the business of others. That was seen when he gave Seth Rollins a superkick, something that “The Messiah” brought up with Reigns. When the Big Dog addressed it, the returning Uso was defiant.

That continued on the May 14 episode of WWE SmackDown with Uso not being apologetic. He threw some jabs at the Tribal Chief, something that did not sit well with him.

He claimed Reigns can't beat Cesaro and asked who would be at the top of the mix if he and Jey Uso became WWE tag team champions once more. Jimmy took it up a notch when he questioned Reigns’ status as “head of the table.”

Miffed, the WWE Universal champion challenged the 35-year-old to prove it and take on Cesaro. The “Swiss Superman” accepted the challenge and went on to win via disqualification later in the evening – thanks to an attack from the Tribal Chief.

Heading into WWE Backlash, there are a lot of scenarios to consider. Cesaro could win the title if some “assist” happens. That could come from Rollins, Jimmy or even Jey. Conversely, Reigns could keep the title if Cesaro ends up on the raw end of things.

Jimmy is getting a bit of a push after wrestling for the first time after 14 months. But based on his jawing with Reigns, it seems pretty clear that there is a power struggle happening right now within the faction. Jey is trying to mend fences but could end up needing to choose a side.

If Jey wants to become champion, his best chances would be to tandem with his brother Jimmy. Then again, he could always turn on his brother – paving the way for Jimmy to get that push in the singles competition.

Hence, WWE Backlash set on Sunday at 7 p.m. EDT at the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida, should unravel more twists and turns as this storyline continues to heat up.
